KRIKO-BE

The blackouts in Berlin at the end of 2025 and the beginning of 2026 showed how quickly crisis communication reaches its limits. Information is distributed digitally and in analogue form, but not in a coordinated way, and people with language barriers, limited digital skills or precarious living conditions are reached too late. KRIKO-BE brings together researchers from all four Berlin universities of applied sciences to make communication between administration, emergency services, critical infrastructure, social institutions and citizens more reliable. The project develops game-based educational formats for schools and neighbourhoods in which emergency services, social workers and administrative staff practise evacuations, mass enquiries and de-escalation. Additionally we develop a multilingual AI-supported telephone channel as open source. The project runs from January 2026 to December 2027, is coordinated by HTW Berlin and funded by the Land Berlin (Senatsverwaltung für Wissenschaft, Gesundheit und Pflege) through IFAF Berlin.
